Jottings from A Day in My Life – Day 4

Well, I just realized that I never told you what Crosby means and why I picked it. I was talking to my daughters about names. We were kinda leaning towards Rufus (which means red-head) and then they both suggested that I think of a singer or a band. So, we listed some band names and then my daughter said, “What about Crosby? You know…like in Bing Crosby?” Now I do like (and have always liked) Bing Crosby! I’ve watched almost all of his movies and melted at the sound of his voice. When you put Fred Astaire & Bing Crosby or Danny Kay & Bing Crosby together….it’s a great movie! 🙂

Crosby is also a character on Parenthood (a tv series that I really like). I liked it! Everyday since that conversation I have liked it more. I looked it up to see what it meant…it means “The Cross” or “at the cross”. At first this didn’t really mean much to me…however, the more I begin to embrace this new dog and stop feeling guilty about getting him so quickly, the more I begin to see that he is a gift to me from God…to ease my pain of losing Lady!

“At the Cross” … God fulfills our needs when we lay our pain and suffering “at the Cross” and He gives us good gifts – Matthew 7:11 – “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!”  and James 1:17 – “Every good and perfect gifts is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows”.

So even in the death of my beloved Lady, God has chosen to give me Crosby as a reminder to lay my troubles and burdens in life….”at the cross”.

Look at that face 🙂

Here’s my Crosby:

“Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens”               (Psalm 68:19).

“Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest”                        (Matthew 11:28)
