…Kelso was actually named after the character on “That 70’s Show” (Ashton Kutcher) … and the personality actually fits
Kelso has an interesting story behind him. Vanessa had a friend who had possession of this dog — part pitbull and part American bulldog. Well, to make a long story short. The reason this girl had possession of him was that the guy who he belonged to wanted to fight him. Of course, fighting dogs is illegal in America, so she was given possession. However, the girl couldn’t keep him, she already had two large German Shephards…couldn’t keep a 3rd huge dog. But, if she put him in the shelter, he would be put to sleep because of the pitbull in him.
You can picture the story unfolding from here (I’m sure)…here comes Vee with her red cape on…flying in to save the day…or the dog, in this case. So now Vanessa is the proud owner of a HUGE puppy who is part pitbull and part American bulldog (did I mention that???) Well, yes! Here is Kelso at the ripe old age of 3 MONTHS!!
Well, to continue the story…Kelso came to live with us and Joey did not like another male dog coming into his territory of female dogs (Jazmin and Lady). Needless to say, Joey and Kelso did not get along at all for the first year or more…they had many fights…instigated, of course, by Joey. The fiesty, ferocious “chihuahua”!! Size doesn’t matter to Joey…he goes for the juglar every time. Poor Kelso…such a sweet….HUGE, but sweet, sweet dog! Joey always suffered damage in these fights, but only because Kelso was simply trying to stop Joey from tearing his leg off. Did I mention before that Joey was intelligent? Hmmmm….I recant that statement. Kelso could have snapped Joey’s neck with little effort … his jaws are a death trap after all. But it’s not in Kelso’s big ‘ole sweet heart to do that! So, Joey still lives on! We do keep them separated unless they are under close observation though!
Kelso, bless his big ‘ole gentle heart….absolutely LOVES water!! He is so funny to watch! This summer I’m getting him his own pool to play in. But for now we use the hose (which is all chewed up at the end now)…and the sprinkler. You cannot turn on the water outside without him safely locked in the house or he will go after the hose! When he was a puppy he used to take a running start and literally jump into our pool. Our pool is above the ground by 4 feet. Fortunately, he has gotten too big to do that now! It was a rather obnoxious trait before!!
Well, I’ll let the pictures say the rest, but even though Kelso was a challenge at first, we have fallen in love with him and he is an accepted member of the family (pack) now! His big head, his big paws, his big muscles, his big jaw…and especially, his big heart!!
